Indy Chin Population

Indianapolis' Southside hosts the largest population of Chin refugees in the United States with over 16,000 refugees located mostly within Perry township.

Background

The Chin people came from the Chin state of Myanmar (Burma) to escape both religious and ethnic

persecution.

Language

Though many Chin refugees speak and/or read Burmese, they often prefer to use the Halka or Falaam--languages of the Chin State.
